Treatment for Pregnancy & Postnatal Pain

We offer a gentle approach with effective relief whether you are experiencing pain caused by changes in posture during pregnancy or from the physical stresses and strains of becoming a new mum.

Osteopathy in pregnancy
During pregnancy your body undergoes significant physical and hormonal changes.  On average women increase their weight by 25%.  Hormonal changes cause ligaments to soften and lengthen.  These factors result in postural changes that can lead to pain and discomfort.
You may have a pre-existing problem that has been aggravated by the changing shape of your body or you may be experiencing discomfort as a direct result of the pregnancy.
Osteopathy offers a safe, gentle, non-invasive treatment for the relief of these symptoms.
Common pregnancy related complaints treated are:
  • General aches and pains – back, neck, rib and shoulder pain
  • Pelvic girdle pain and pubic symphysis pain
  • Sciatica
  • Aching legs and swollen ankles
  • Wrist pain
Osteopathic treatment during pregnancy can also help to align the pelvis and ready the body for delivery.

Postnatal Mums

osteopathy for postnatal mums
Following birth it takes a while before your hormones return to normal, particularly if you are breast feeding.  This results in your ligaments being softer and more relaxed than normal and as a result more prone to strain.  These factors coupled with postural strains of breast feeding, lifting your baby, carrying them in their car seat, carrying all of their equipment and being over tired puts a strain on your body.  You may also have some residual aches and pains following your pregnancy.

Osteopathic treatment can help with a wide range of musculoskeletal problems you may be experiencing.
Common complaints experienced by new mums that we treat are:
  • Back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Shoulder pain
  • Elbow and wrist pain
  • Pelvic pain
  • Knee, ankle and foot pain
At North Norfolk Osteopaths our treatment also involves rehabilitation, self-care, exercise and postural advice to aid recovery, promote health and prevent symptoms recurring.
