Cranial Osteopathy for Babies
At North Norfolk Osteopaths our experienced practitioners offer gentle cranial osteopathic treatment for babies.

Pregnancy and birth are natural processes and babies generally cope well with the forces of labour. However, sometimes birth can be more complex and difficult taking a long time or requiring medical interventions such as forceps, ventouse, kiwi or caesarian section.  Some babies can experience unsettled behavior and other minor conditions of early life such as difficulties with feeding, bowel movements, wind and sleeping.

An osteopathic check-up following the birth can help identify potential problems and help to ease the dramatic transition from life inside the womb to the outside world.  This initial adjustment involves many bodily systems such as breathing and digestion.  Cranial osteopathy can be both helpful and soothing, relieving physical stresses and strains.

Please feel free to call us if you would like more information on the treatments we offer.

We treat children for developmental problems and pain symptoms.

From toddlers who are learning to crawl, walk, run and communicate through to adolescents who are transitioning from children into adults, it is desirable to monitor developmental milestones as well as manage any growth or developmental problems or conditions that may arise.

Osteopathic treatment aims to restore correct mechanics within the body and through this facilitate the different body systems in working optimally.  These include the nervous, immune, musculoskeletal and circulatory systems. Our Osteopaths will take a detailed history of your child's presenting problem as well as their medical history and any other health concerns.  If there are any issues you would like to discuss in private before the consultation, please let us know and we can arrange for you to speak to the Osteopath who will be treating your child over the phone, prior to the consultation.

Examination and treatment are non-invasive, gentle and safe.  For small children gentle techniques are used. These techniques can be used to treat the whole body.  The aim of treatment is to rebalance the body and facilitate the body's own healing mechanisms allowing it to normalise.

In older children and teenagers soft tissue massage and gentle stretching may also be used to increase mobility of joints, relieve muscle tension, enhance blood and nerve supply to tissues.  Where appropriate we would prescribe rehabilitative exercise and advice on posture to aid recovery, promote health and prevent symptoms recurring.

For all patients under the age of 16, we ask that a relative or guardian over the age of 18 be present during consultations.
